Know your number

Earn enough credits to keep your benefits.

Students cannot repeat a course that had a passing (C or higher) grade.

Quarter System: You must earn 42 credits from Fall 2026 + Winter 2027 + Spring 2027 + Summer 2027

**Courses not required for your degree are not covered by your scholarship and will not count towards the 27/42 credits.
If you fail to meet 27/42 credits you will be subject to repayment of summer salaries and ticket allowances.**

  1. Access the Sahel application through your phone.

The allowances will be released with the September 2026 salary (scheduled to be deposited on August 20, 2025).

NOTE: Your are NOT ELIGIBLE to book/clothing & equipment allowance if:
  1. You are on scholarship extension
  2. MASTERS student
To be eligible you must have:
  • ESL students: PASSED 50% of courses in Spring /Summer 2026 term
  • ACADEMIC Students: must have EARNED minimum 12 credits and 2.00 GPA in Spring /Summer 2026 to be eligible to receive allowances.

  • Home-school confirmation that the course is required for your degree
  • Home-school approval if the course is outside your home university
Non-Traditional

(Non-traditional course type are: online, hybrid/web enhanced/blended, flex/hyflex/rooflex, distance education, independent/directed study, correspondence, credit by exam, continuing education, satellite campus, ITV, CD-Video lectures, weekend only, remote, etc.)*

Required documents:
  • Personal statement or written request
  • Verification of non-traditional courses from all schools attended
  • Course syllabus
  • Fall detailed schedules from all schools
  • Home-school confirmation that the course is required for your degree
  • Home-school approval if the course is outside your home university
Community college
Required documents:
  • Personal statement or written request
  • Confirm the school and campus are approved
  • Written approval from your home school that the course is required for your degree
  • Provide detailed schedules from all schools
  • Proof of a schedule conflict or that the course is unavailable at your home school
  • Do not exceed the credit limit at your home institution
Outside home university
Required documents:
  • Personal statement or written request
  • Written approval from your home school that the course is required for your degree
  • Provide detailed schedules from all schools
  • Verification of non-traditional courses
  • Make sure there are no schedule conflicts
  • Do not exceed the credit limit at your home institution
Internships
Prior approval is required.

Contact your Cultural Office adviser before the internship begins to confirm the required internship documents.

Prior approval means before the start of classes.

Know the limits

Non-Traditional and Community College courses have special rules.

Undergraduate

6 non-traditional courses18 credits maximum during your undergraduate studies

Master's

2 non-traditional coursesmaximum during your master's studies
Community college: maximum 2 courses for the entire degree, with prior approval and a valid reason.
If you have missing documents your request can not be processed.
Merit scholarship students are not allowed to take community college courses.
Non-Traditonal courses are not allowed at the community college.

Stay at your scholarship location for the full academic term.

Leaving scholarship location during classes will result in repayment of salaries for the period outside study location.

  • You must have prior approval from the university and the Cultural Office before leaving.
  • Keep your I-20 and travel documents valid.
  • This may affect your immigration status.

  • ๐Ÿ’ฐYou are allowed to change bank accounts between the 1st - 10th of each month for a maximum of three (3) times during your entire scholarship period.
  • ๐ŸŽ“To ensure a smooth path to graduation, verify with your academic advisor that all your courses are approved
  • โŒUnapproved courses must be repeated before graduation
  • ๐Ÿ“ณEnsure your contact information (email, mailing address, phone number) is up to date in KC Student Portal
  • ๐Ÿ“œEnsure that you have signed and uploaded and all the required forms (Release of Information, Statement of Understanding) in KC Student Portal
